Overview
At Okra Solar, we’re on a mission to bring Power to the People by unlocking opportunities through energy access for everyone in the world.
Over 650 million people still live without electricity. At a time where technology such as mobile devices, productive agritech and AI are becoming more accessible than ever, we believe that access to energy is the first step toward opportunity and growth.
That’s why we build our Mesh Grid technology that energizes off-grid households at a fraction of the cost of the other solutions. We build the hardware and software, that we sell to local energy companies who deploy our tech to deliver affordable, reliable electricity as a service last-mile communities.
In order to execute on the mission to 100% energy access for all, we are looking for an Electrical Engineering Intern. This is an IEFP internship based in Porto. We need a motivated individual to support our engineering team in developing and maintaining our hardware solutions, ensuring high quality and reliability for our global impact.
If you’re excited about this role and want to be part of our challenging mission, you could be the right person to join us.
- This is an IEFP internship based in Porto; candidates should be eligible for IEFP programs.
- Role involves regular on-site lab work and occasional system validation in staging environments.
Responsibilities
You won’t just observe—you’ll build, test, document, and improve. Expect hands-on lab time, structured test campaigns, and clear documentation.
Design & Documentation
- Prepare electrical system schematics aligned to product requirements and test setups.
- Maintain version-controlled documentation for schematics, wiring diagrams, and test procedures.
- PVSyst modelling for solar energy systems to support sizing, yield estimates
Testing & Compatibility
- Run functional and regression tests on new and existing products to verify system compatibility and performance thresholds.
- Execute test plans, log results, triage issues.
Systems Monitoring
- Monitor the Mesh Grid staging environment; proactively flag anomalies, performance drifts, and integration issues.
- Collaborate with firmware and software teams to validate fixes and close the feedback loop quickly.
Quality Control
- Develop QC procedures for incoming inspection, in-process checks, and final validation of assemblies and sub-systems.
- Review QC reports, identify recurring defects, and recommend corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
Lab & Inventory Management
- Keep accurate inventory of lab tools, instruments, and spare parts;
- Organize benches, test rigs, and documentation to maintain our hardware lab.
Hard Skills
- Competence with electrical system design and interpretation of schematics and wiring diagrams.
